YSU Faculty of History recently hosted the winners of the Nikoghayos Mar International Armenian Studies Competition for a scholarly discussion and exchange of experience. The event was attended by faculty members and students.
The Nikoghayos Mar Competition is a joint initiative of the Russian House and the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Russian-Armenian University. Now in its third year in Armenia, the competition aims to connect Armenian studies scholars from different countries and support research in the field.

The winners shared their research findings through presentations. Levon Batiev from the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Rostov-on-Don) spoke about the development of the autonomy of the Armenian community in Don Nakhichevan from the late 18th century to the 1870s. His study examined the community’s legal status, social structure, and cultural activities during that period.
Another winner, Araksya Arakelyan (Nor Urengoï), presented a report titled "Armenian Migration to the Tyumen Region: From the 19th Century to the Second Half of the 21st Century." Her work offers a detailed look at migration waves, community adaptation, and the socio-economic role of Armenians in the region.
The discussion was lively, with both in-depth academic questions and student participation.
Mkhitar Gabrielian, Dean of the Faculty of History, and Eduard Zohrabyan, Head of the Chair of History of Armenia and Neighboring Countries, thanked the guests for their presentations and emphasized the value of continued collaboration.
Events like this, which facilitate the sharing of research findings and expertise, contribute to the development of Armenian studies. YSU Faculty of History is committed to supporting ongoing cooperation and strengthening scientific ties in this field.
