As part of the Fathers of the Mekhitarist Congregation project and the Sebastatsi Days event, Edik Minasyan, Doctor History, Professor, Head of the Chair of Armenian History at Yerevan State University, delivered a lecture on November 18 at the research gymnasium of the Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educational Complex.
The lecture, titled "Historical Significance of 'Bazmavep' Periodical of Mekhitarist Congregation", was attended by students from grades 10 to 12 of the educational complex.
Professor Minasyan outlined the educational, scientific, and cultural role of the Mekhitarist Congregation in Armenian history, highlighting the significant contributions of its prominent figures—Mkhitar Sebastatsi, Ghevond Alishan, Ghukas Intshitshyan, Mikayel Chamchyan, among others—in the development of the congregation and the preservation of Armenian spiritual and cultural heritage.
He emphasized the importance of social cohesion and unity throughout all periods of Armenian history, presenting them as fundamental conditions for the nation's consolidation and resilience.
The YSU professor provided a detailed overview of the content of the 'Bazmavep' periodical, published continuously since 1843, highlighting its source-critical, historical, and cultural significance. He also stressed the connection of 'Bazmavep' periodical's authors with leading European thinkers, which enabled the periodical to serve as a bridge between Armenian and European Enlightenment circles.
At the conclusion of the lecture, students received professional guidance regarding their research projects. Professor Minasyan expressed his willingness to continue supporting students during their research studies and invited them to visit the Faculty of History for further engagement.
