Susanna Sargsyan, a second-year master's student in the "Art Studies" program, is a recipient of the Tatul Krpeyan Named Scholarship. In an interview, she shared her research interests and reflected on the faculty environment in supporting professional development.
– What significance does the named scholarship hold for your professional path and motivation?
– The named scholarship first and foremost represents the recognition that your work is visible and valued. When you dedicate significant time and effort to study and research, such acknowledgment becomes a vital incentive, affirming that the path you have chosen is the right one. It is not merely material support; it also provides professional confidence, allowing one to approach future projects and tackle any professional challenge with greater boldness.
– Which professional areas are central to your scholarly research?
– My core research interests lie in the historical and artistic study of Armenian silverwork and goldsmithing. I also place great importance on the study of carpet art and epigraphy, which serve as reliable sources for dating and interpreting art objects. The professional guidance of faculty and the opportunity to work with archival and unique scholarly materials enable me to construct my research rigorously and further develop my skills in art historical analysis.
– What are your plans in your profession, and how has your experience at the Faculty of History helped you achieve them?
– My goal is to continue my research in a PhD program, as I aim to engage more deeply in scholarly work and contribute to the development of my field. The years spent at the faculty have provided me with a strong academic foundation and analytical skills necessary for professional growth and future degree attainment. The experience has offered me not only a wealth of knowledge but also a clear roadmap for envisioning my plans in the academic world.
– What advice would you give to students wishing to receive a named scholarship?
– My advice is to hold yourself to high standards and never limit your learning to classroom knowledge alone. Visit museums and galleries, explore every layer of art firsthand, and approach your analyses with curiosity and courage. Remember, receiving a named scholarship is not a goal, but the beginning of new opportunities. Love the profession you have chosen, and that dedication will naturally lead to the success you seek.
Susanna's experience highlights the role of named scholarships in fostering professional confidence and research motivation. The faculty's support and access to exceptional scholarly resources enable students to develop analytical skills and substantiate their research, serving as a foundation for continued professional and academic advancement.
