An interactive competition dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the proclamation of the Hetumid dynasty has been launched at the Faculty of History, bringing together teams from general education schools in Yerevan and various provinces of Armenia. The competition aims to promote history and cultural heritage while fostering greater interest in Armenian history among schoolchildren.
As part of the initiative, participants are given the opportunity to explore the history of Cilician Armenia, the political, cultural, and state-building processes of the Hetumid period, and deepen their knowledge of medieval Armenian statehood through innovative and interactive formats.
Twenty-eight teams from schools and secondary vocational education institutions in Yerevan, the Ararat, Kotayk, Armavir, Shirak, and Lori provinces, as well as other parts of the country, participated in the first stage of the team-based competition, ensuring broad geographic representation and active engagement in the program.
Based on the results of the first stage, the winning teams were those representing Yerevan S. Gevorgyan High School No. 189, Yerevan High School No. 109, M. Mashtots High School of Charentsavan, Masis High School No. 5, Aragatsavan Secondary School No. 1, I. Virabyan Secondary School in Balahovit, Parakar Secondary School, Akhuryan Basic School No. 2, Alaverdi Basic School No. 12, and the Kotayk and Ararat Regional State Colleges. These teams will continue their participation in the next stages of the competition.
The teams of H. Tumanyan Basic School No. 3 of Gavar and Pokr Vedi Secondary School, which demonstrated strong results and placed second, have also qualified for the next stage of the competition.
The competition stages include history quizzes, team discussions, logical problem-solving tasks, and elements of historical reenactment, all of which contribute to the development of participants' analytical thinking, teamwork, and rapid decision-making skills.
Notably, bachelor's and master's students at the Faculty of History were actively involved in the competition organizational work as volunteers, playing an important role in ensuring the initiative's effective implementation.
Such initiatives play an important role in applying modern methods of history education, strengthening school-university cooperation, and fostering historical awareness among the younger generation.
The next stage of the team competition will take place on June 8 at the YSU Faculty of History.
