The semifinal round of the interactive competition commemorating the 800th anniversary of the proclamation of the Hethumid Dynasty has concluded. Organized at the initiative of the YSU Faculty of History, the competition brought together 13 teams representing general and vocational education institutions.
The semifinal stage focused on various aspects of the history of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. Participants were tested on topics including the historical geography of Cilicia, international treaties, ecclesiastical councils, and the kingdom's political, military, and cultural development.
Designed to assess both knowledge and critical thinking, the competition challenged participants to analyze historical processes, identify connections between events, and respond effectively under time constraints. The teams demonstrated a high level of preparation and engagement, contributing to a dynamic and competitive semifinal round.
Based on the results, five teams have advanced to the final round of the competition: Samvel Gevorgyan High School No. 189 (Yerevan), M. Hovhannisyan Secondary School of Pokr Vedi (Ararat Province), Ararat Regional State College, Parakar Secondary School, and Akhuryan Basic School No. 2.
The initiative competition aims to promote interest in Armenian history among young people, with a particular focus on the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, while encouraging the development of analytical thinking, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
A significant portion of the competition's planning and implementation was carried out by volunteer students and alumni of the YSU Faculty of History, with the support of the Faculty of History and the Center for Admissions and Applicant Affairs. Volunteers contributed to various stages of the project, including content development, preparation, and event coordination, helping ensure the successful delivery of the competition. Their involvement reflects the strong sense of initiative, responsibility, and community engagement fostered within the faculty.
The final round will take place on June 29 at the Armenian Wine History Museum, where the winning team will be determined and the competition dedicated to the history of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia will officially conclude.
