YSU students win 2 gold and 2 bronze medals at International Mathematics Competition
At the 32nd International Mathematics Competition for University Students, Ruben Hambardzumyan and Vahram Asatryan, 4th-year students at YSU Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, were awarded gold medals, while Narek Hoveyan and Stepan Gevorgyan, a third-year student at the Institute of Physics, received bronze medals.

The international student competition, held in Bulgaria, consisted of two phases. Over the course of two days, participants solved a total of 10 problems (five per day), covering topics such as mathematical analysis, combinatorics, probability theory, and more. As a result, YSU students earned two gold and two bronze medals. Based on individual performances, a team ranking was compiled, with YSU team securing 24th place overall.
The team was led and coached by Albert Gevorgyan, a lecturer at the Chair of Algebra and Geometry, YSU Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics.
The students’ preparatory training lasted about two months. Among those who worked with the students were Karen Keryan, Assistant at the Chair of Theory of Functions and Differential Equations; Vazgen Mikayelyan, lecturer at the Chair of Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics; and Tigran Hakobyan, Associate Professor at the Chair of Theoretical Physics named after Academician Gurgen Sahakyan, Institute of Physics.
"The interdisciplinary training sessions contributed not only to the participants’ excellent results in the competition but also to their high level of preparedness, enabling them to solve problems efficiently and within the allotted time," emphasized Karen Keryan.
Yerevan State University has been participating in this prominent competition since 2005 and has consistently achieved outstanding results.
The competition, held this year from July 28 to August 3, brought together teams from 73 universities worldwide, comprising a total of 434 students. The competition is designed for students completing their first through fourth years of university education.
