Yerevan State University ranks among Europe's top 500 universities Yerevan State University has maintained its standing in the QS World University Rankings for the third consecutive year (2024–2026). In the 2026 edition, YSU placed within the 1001–1200 range among approximately 1,500 institutions worldwide. Notably, in the QS Europe University Rankings for the same year, YSU secured the 487th position out of 958 institutions, with an overall score of 23.2.

From YSU to global recognition: Armenian genius of mathematics When people speak of him, they often call him the Armenian genius of mathematics. Upon entering Yerevan State University, he passed all the examinations for both the first and second years within a single year, immediately advancing to third-year classes. Completing the university's five-year program in just three and a half years, he enrolled in postgraduate studies and finished them in only one year. At the age of 20, he earned the degree of doctor of sciences, and at 24, he was elected the youngest-ever corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He was Sergey Mergelyan—the world-renowned Armenian scientist and Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia—a scholar for whom YSU served as the definitive starting point on a path toward global recognition and historic scientific achievements.
