Now-traditional international conference on transformative economy and human capital development kicks off at YSU
The International Conference "Transformative Economy: Human Capital Development, Co-Creative Innovative Economy, Sustainable Inclusive Growth" has officially commenced at the Faculty of Economics and Management, Yerevan State University. Now in its second edition, the conference is organized within the framework of collaboration between the faculty and the Regional Science Academy.

The conference is designed to provide a high-quality platform for presenting and disseminating innovative research findings, while fostering collaboration between academics and experts from scientific and educational institutions worldwide. It also aims to explore the transformative potential of innovative technologies in education and the economy, with particular attention to their impact on human capital development and the promotion of sustainable, inclusive growth—both spatially and economically.

The event began with YSU anthem, followed by a welcome speech from YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan. The rector emphasized that the thematic scope of the conference is notably broad, offering an opportunity for specialists from various fields to present their innovative perspectives and research findings. He expressed hope that the conference would foster meaningful and productive discussions.
"The impressive presence of numerous international participants is a clear sign of the relevance and urgency of topics to be discussed. For Yerevan State University, it is a priority to host initiatives that bring together knowledge, practice, and a vision for the future. As part of its strategic program, YSU places strong emphasis on encouraging scientific initiatives," said Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan.
Dean of YSU Faculty of Economics and Management Karlen Khachatryan noted that over the course of three days, the faculty will become a hub for presenting innovative research outcomes.

"In order to respond effectively to the ongoing global transformations, we must think beyond traditional frameworks and build a human-centered, innovation-driven, inclusive, and sustainable transforming economy. The faculty is not only an educational center but also a hub for international cooperation, scientific advancement, and national development. Through this scientific event, organized in collaboration with our partners, we are building new bridges between Armenia and the global academic community," the dean said.
President of the Union of Banks of Armenia, Daniel Azatyan, stated that education is the foundation of sustainable development and systemic change, and the strength of the banking sector depends on professionals with analytical thinking. He stressed the importance of close cooperation with Yerevan State University in bridging theory and practice and in training the next generation of financial leaders.
During the conference, over 75 presentations will be delivered across seven thematic sections in both in-person and online formats. The three-day event will also feature presentations from representatives of Armenia’s public administration and financial sectors, as well as from leading international organizations, including the Central Bank of Armenia, the Ministry of Economy, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank. Among the keynote speakers are two Nobel Laureates—Paul Krugman (2008) and Daron Acemoglu (2024)—as well as Professor Peter Nijkamp from the Open University of the Netherlands, Vice-President of the Regional Science Academy, and one of the world’s top 30 economists.

In his remarks, Professor Nijkamp stated: "Given the current economic and political situation worldwide, it is more important than ever to thoroughly reflect on the topics will be discussed at this conference. These include the transforming economy, economic development in turbulence, political changes, territorial issues, climate challenges, institutional changes, international cooperation, and more. I am happy to be here today and to contribute to what science is meant to do—build a good and solid knowledge base."
At the event, Peter Nijkamp was awarded YSU Gold Medal in recognition of his long-standing and sustained academic collaboration and notable contributions. Karima Kourtit, Executive Director of the Regional Science Academy, received the commemorative medal of YSU Faculty of Economics and Management for her active support and cooperation with the faculty.
In recognition of their support in organizing the second international conference, certificates of appreciation and commemorative gifts were presented to Daniel Azatyan, Chairman of the Union of Banks of Armenia; Mher Abrahamyan, Chairman of the Management Board of ID Bank; and Garegin Darbinyan, Executive Director and Chairman of the Directorate of Fast Bank.

The international conference has attracted around 120 confirmed participants, including prominent scholars and recognized experts from YSU Faculty of Economics and Management and other Armenian universities.
About 40 renowned scholars from over 17 countries—including the United States, Canada, Brazil, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, India, and others—have traveled to Armenia to take part in the event.
Such broad international participation ensures a high level of expert discussion, combining academic research by globally recognized scholars with insights from leading public institutions and international organizations.
The conference is sponsored by Fast Bank and ID Bank, and the Union of Banks of Armenia is the partner of the event.
