Republican stage of Informatics Olympiad held at YSU
The republican stage of the Informatics Olympiad was held at the YSU Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics. The annual initiative aims to boost students' interest in programming and information technologies, identify outstanding students in the field, and promote cooperation among educational institutions.
Forty-seven students who advanced through the provincial stage participated in the competition, representing Yerevan and several provinces of Armenia, including Lori, Syunik, Armavir, Shirak, and Tavush. Participants competed in two age categories: junior (grades 7–9) and senior (grades 10–12).
Armen Andreasyan, Assistant at the Chair of Programming and Information Technologies at the YSU Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics, said the organizers focused on preparing the olympiad tasks.
"Our primary responsibility is preparing the olympiad tasks. This year's tasks were more complex compared to last year's. Participants' submitted programs are evaluated through a special automated system that scores the results without human intervention," he said.
He explained that a set of tests is prepared in advance for each problem, with various input and output data. When a participant submits a solution, the system automatically checks it against these tests and assigns a score.
Notably, several of last year's prize winners are now continuing their studies at Yerevan State University, while others have enrolled in universities abroad.
The olympiad has been held at the university for approximately 30 years, consistently maintaining its important role in fostering students' interest in informatics and programming.
The next stage of the olympiad will take place tomorrow, and the final results will be published later in the evening on the olymp.am website.
