707 students compete in 17 subjects in final stage of YSU Olympiad 2026
The final stage of the YSU Olympiad 2026 was held at Yerevan State University, bringing together hundreds of students from Yerevan and Armenia's provinces. The main objective of the event was to support the development of students' academic interests, assist in their professional orientation, and uncover their potential.
The annual subject olympiad at YSU serves as a unique educational platform, enabling students from Yerevan and various provinces of Armenia to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities in a university setting.
This competition is a nationwide annual event organized by the YSU Center for Admissions and Affairs with Applicants, through which prospective students become acquainted with the university before enrolling in academic life.
The YSU Olympiad provides another opportunity for school students and future applicants to test their knowledge in both general education and supplementary academic subjects. Unlike the previous year, this year's olympiad included students from high schools, gymnasiums, and colleges in Yerevan and across Armenia's provinces.
According to a decision by the YSU Academic Council, students awarded first-, second-, and third-degree diplomas in general and supplementary subjects are eligible, upon admission to the university on a paid basis, to receive scholarships in their first year covering 50%, 40%, and 30% of tuition fees, respectively.
The final stage of the YSU Olympiad 2026 included 707 participants in general education subjects—Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Armenian History, Armenian Language and Literature, Russian, English, German, French, and Informatics—as well as supplementary subjects including History of the Armenian Church, Logic, Sociology, Fundamentals of State and Law, and Economics.
No applicants registered for the supplementary subject Fundamentals of Ecology and Sustainable Development this year; however, participants competed in Economics, Sociology, and History of the Armenian Church, for which no applicants had registered in the previous academic year.
The օlympiad in general education subjects was conducted in two stages (except Informatics), while supplementary subjects were held in a single stage. The first stage was conducted online, and the second in person at various YSU faculties. Participants in the second stage were those who achieved the best results in the first stage.
The final results of the olympiad will be announced at the end of this week.
Yerevan State University stated that through such competitions it aims to develop students' scientific thinking, encourage high academic performance, identify individuals with strong potential, and support prospective students in their professional orientation.
