Postdoctoral Research Position Announcement
Title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Atomistic Modelling in Material Science
Institution: Computational Materials Science Laboratory, Yerevan State University
Location: Yerevan, Republic of Armenia
Application Deadline: 10 February 2026
Starting Date: September 2026
Duration: 2 years
Description:
Computational Materials Science Lab at Yerevan State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Atomistic Modelling in Materials Science. The successful 4 candidates will join a dynamic and collaborative research team and work on two projects.
The first research will be a part of a big project of the lab or group. Our lab’s core research focuses on the computational discovery of novel crystalline and amorphous materials for advanced battery applications, alongside the exploration of two-dimensional (2D) materials for sustainable energy solutions. To streamline these efforts, we heavily utilize Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to navigate complex chemical spaces. The fellow will contribute to these ongoing large-scale group efforts while also developing an independent research direction.
The second project will be in the framework of the “PostDoc Armenia 2026” grant, for which the applicant should propose an individual application (as described below).
Responsibilities:
- Conduct DFT calculations.
- Calculate stability Phase diagrams.
- Use AI for accelerating calculations and discovery of novel materials.
- Calculate important features for battery materials: ion conduction, stability window.
- Conduct independent research within the scope of the PostDoc project.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve project milestones.
- Use Machine Learning for accelerating materials discovery.
- Participate in the educational process by collaborating with master's and Ph.D. students, dedicating no more than 20% of your time.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Materials Science or a related discipline (Physics, Chemistry).
- At least 4 publications in the International Scientific Database (Scopus or WOS).
- To be born after January 1, 1986.
- Ph.D received after January 1, 2011.
- Excellent background for solid state physics, DFT and computational physics.
- Experience with computational tools, machine learning, and DFT calculations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Benefits:
- The salary starts at around $2200 but has the potential for an increase through participation in other grants.
- Health insurance.
- Opportunities to participate conferences.
- Access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources in Armenia (Aznavour supercomputer and GPU supercomputer at YSU ).
- Opportunities for professional development and networking.
Application Process:
- Interested candidates should submit their application, including a CV and a Cover Letter via this link: https://forms.gle/B8rFZyVmHmLzzHpy7 . The submission deadline is February 10.
- After submission, the first stage will be an online interview with the PI of CMS Lab.
- Results of the first stage will be announced in mid-February 2026.
- In the second stage, selected applicants will apply to the “ PostDoc 2026 Armenia” grant. Deadline for the second stage is 6 March. Details of the grant will be announced later.
- The final results will be announced in July 2026.
